CLINICAL RESEARCH MANAGER:

Mountain Diabetes and Endocrine Center (MDEC) is a private endocrinology clinic and clinical research center located in Asheville, North Carolina. The practice has five healthcare providers who bring high-quality and personalized endocrine care to their patients: Wendy S. Lane, MD, Stephen L. Weinrib, MD, Lynn Baru, MD, Michael Skrzynski, ANP, and Nancy Cotter, FNP. The clinical research unit is spearheaded by Wendy S. Lane, MD, who is an internationally renowned diabetes researcher. Dr. Lane has co-authored notable investigative articles, in major journals, such as JAMA, JCEM, Endocrine Practice and Diabetes Technology and Therapeutics. In addition to diabetes-related issues, the research unit has performed trials focusing on thyroid hormone replacement, acromegaly, growth hormone replacement and injection devices.
Mountain Diabetes and Endocrine Center is hiring a Clinical Research Manager (CRM). The CRM will lead a team to ensure the health and well-being of study participants enrolled in the clinical research trials. The CRM will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Clinical Research Coordinators (CRC), subject visits, clinical trial agreement negotiations, and data collection/entry. A nursing/clinical background with practical experience, including intravenous therapy, is recommended. Research experience is required. The CRM position is uniquely suited for those interested in extensive hands-on clinical work as well as cutting-edge research experience.

Daily tasks completed by the CRM will include:
- Oversight of the research unit’s clinical trial agreements and finances
- Clinical procedures including vital signs, electrocardiograms (ECG), phlebotomy, Mixed-Meal Tolerance Testing, and IV placement
- Client engagement and subject/patient recruitment
- CRC hiring, training, and education
- Study Patient/Subject Oversight
- Collecting medical history
- Monitoring health status
- Assessing the patient’s study compliance
- Conducting diabetes education and training patients on their diabetes management devices
- Refining procedural checklists for documentation of in-office and phone visits with subjects
- Maintaining the research unit’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)/Institutional Review Board (IRB) documents
- Capturing, reconciling, and interpreting trial-relevant data
- Maintaining internal quality assurance processes
- Representing MDEC in meetings with research sponsoring organizations
Successful candidates will have:
- A nursing/clinical background (PA, NP, or RN preferred) with clinical experience
- Research experience required
- Certification as a Diabetes Educator (preferred)
- Leadership experience
- Exceptional communication skills
- Strong critical thinking and decision-making abilities
- High level of attention to detail
- Desire to gain experience with quantitative and qualitative research
