Stephen L. Weinrib, MD
Dr. Weinrib holds an undergraduate degree from Northwestern University in American History, and after practicing medicine for 5 years in his native Alabama, he joined Dr. Lane at Mountain Diabetes and Endocrine Center (MDEC) in 2002. He treats endocrine conditions in adolescents and adults and is interested in addressing underlying conditions and health practices which exacerbate diabetes and other metabolic disorders. He particularly enjoys working with patients with diabetes mellitus, insulin resistance syndrome, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), hyper- and hypo- thyroidism, thyroid cancer and pituitary disorders. He was the first endocrinologist licensed in NC to dose radioactive iodine for thyroid cancer and hyperthyroidism from a private office.
In 2011 he published outcome data on patients treated at MDEC with well-differentiated thyroid cancer and demonstrated comparable successful outcomes to university-based and dedicated cancer centers. He lectures to healthcare professionals and patient groups locally and regionally on the latest approaches to diabetes and thyroid cancer. A few evenings per month he volunteers in Asheville (ABCCM) and Hendersonville (The Free Clinic) treating under-insured patients with endocrine conditions.
